Shamanic sessions

The word “shaman” comes from a word for a traditional healer in the nomadic tribes in Siberia and nearby areas. A shaman traditionally goes into a deep trance-like state to access healing and guidance for individuals and the community as a whole.

In the workshops we offer, the facilitator will teach basic aspects of shamanic practices, including the Medicine Wheel. The Medicine Wheel, sometimes known as the Sacred Hoop, has been used by generations of various Native American tribes for health and healing. It is also reflected in other practices around the world.  It embodies the Four Directions, as well as Father Sky and Mother Earth,—all of which represent dimensions of health and the cycles of life.

Different tribes interpret the Medicine Wheel differently. Each of the Four Directions (East, South, West, and North) is typically represented by a distinctive colour, such as black, red, yellow, and white, which for some stands for the human races. The Directions also represent the 4 elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Air.

The facilitator will base the teachings on her own experiences, connections and training.  Practices will include:  Meditations and relaxation, Body awareness and movement, Ceremonies for health and well-being, Energy-work and Shamanic journeying.

Shamanic journeying, which is often accompanied by a regular drumbeat, is similar to creative visualisation. It can promote a state of deep relaxation. Through gentle techniques, you change your awareness from your physical body. During these short sessions, people can, for example, find their power (or spirit) animals. Exploring the meaning of that animal for yourself can help you understand aspects of your personality and inner resources. Many people find that it enhances their feelings of well-being and is enjoyable in itself.
